This is one of the first projects I have done in class and actually had a full body representation accomplished by the end. I was frustrated with how much I have to learn about everthing to do with pastels, but the medium grows increesingly more enjoyable as I begin to improve.
This is the current art project I am creating in my spare time. I only get in the ceramics art room maybe an hour or so, once or twice a week so this is taking me a while. Ceramics are just an incredible downtime though, and I know exactly how I want to construct this piece, so I am loving every minute I get to work on this Lambda Class Shuttle :D
Here is some of the work I have been doing in class throughout the semester. None of the larger (more complex) out of class drawings are here, but I will post those when they are completely finished.
It's quite a lot of drawing to do, weekly We started pastels in class yesterday, and they are pretty darn fun. I had never used them so I am still getting the hang of the medium, but I am looking forward to useing them. Due to mid-terms being absolutely hectic, I have been slacking on my posting and artwork. These are two things I hope never to stop, not make exscuses for. This is a tree mug that was FINALLY fired :D It is a simple design, but a lot of care went into making the mug as light as possible, while still being durable enough to use often. The glaze was the realy fun part here, though. I mixed up several colors of red and Brown and purple (Rio Grande) to make outside color. As I applied a thick layer, I also washed the glaze off with a a rag. This way it would sink into the grain and small notches. It is a woodworking technique you can use with varnish, but worked just as well in ceramics. It really shows off the texture, the mug is light, sits flat in the table, and has a non-toxic glaze applied to the middle. I am quite happy with this little mug :)
for my Typography class we have to make an info map for a town or place, so I am doing Old Town Clovis' main street (Clovis street ^_^).
It is my first project in Illustrator, since my internship, so I am pretty excited to be working in it again. I also love my Old Town Clovis, so getting to work in my favorite medium with my favorite part of town, just makes me all the more passionate about this project :D |
